The Most Successful International Concerts in O2 Arena

Owing to O2 arena, the Czech and Moravian public have seen or will see seven live concerts of the 25 most successful global concert tours.

Nowadays, prestigious American magazine Billboard has released a list of the 25 most successful global concert tours held between 6 December 2008 and 21 November 2009. With O2 arena, six of those events were also presented as live performances to the Czech and Moravian audience. One concert of the above top 25 list is scheduled for January. By and large, this means more than 25% of the most successful global tours. Five events were held by Live Nation and two events by BESTSPORT, a.s., the owner of O2 arena.

What is more, many of those events are ‘irreplaceable’, i.e. those that could not be held in this country if O2 arena had not been built. This is what reputable international firm KPMG points out in its autumn report. It specifies that public budgets in the Czech Republic have already received CZK 5.2 billion in revenue from O2 arena. Yet O2 arena is probably the only one in this country to have received absolutely no funds from public budgets.

The above-mentioned globally successful concerts also had a great reception in O2 arena. These include the tour by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, which has attracted almost 1.6 million viewers globally, and thus has become the fourth most successful world tour over that period. More than 18,000 spectators came to see AC/DC in Prague’s O2 arena on 17 March 2009.

American singer Pink is fifth in the list, having attracted more than 1.5 million people at 131 concerts during her current tour. This is nearly 12,000 spectators per concert on average. Her performance in O2 arena, held on 19 November 2009, attracted almost 18,000 viewers.

Not only domestic fans of good music could also enjoy the O2 arena shows by Tina Turner and Coldplay (9th and 10th position respectively). Both concerts attracted approximately 17,000 people. Beyonce is next in the list (15th position), with more than 11,000 spectators, followed by Celine Dion (16th position), with nearly 16,000 viewers.

Finally, there is a concert eagerly awaited by many fans, the one to be performed by Depeche Mode, whose tour was 20th in the Billboard list. Their 31 concerts held to date have attracted more than 690,000 fans. The concert in O2 arena is scheduled for as soon as 14 January 2010. Less than a month before the event, the tickets are almost sold out.
