Fun and sustainability in the
O2 Arena go hand in hand

At the O2 arena, we are well aware of the concept of social responsibility and we believe that great experiences do not have to place a heavy burden on our planet. That is why, step by step, we are putting in place sustainable measures that change the way the arena works – from a reusable cup system to efficient waste sorting and energy-efficient use.

Great experiences with a small impact on the planet

Reusable cups

Waste management and sorting

Energy-efficient lighting

Employee education and communication

Modern gastronomy facilities and in-house catering

Navrátil the Cup

The O2 arena is phasing out single-use plastics and introducing a new reusable cup system.

Our cup, which even has a name – Navrátil the Cup – has no flashy graphics, no deposit is required, and its goal is to stay in the O2 arena and be used again and again.

And there's more! For every returned cup, we’ll donate CZK 0.50 to a good cause.

I want to learn more about the new cup!

Waste management and recycling

In cooperation with the non-profit organization INCIEN, we have set new rules for waste management that are now clearer and more efficient. We sort waste on public floors and continue in our facilities. We sort up to 400 tonnes of waste per year.

Where and what to throw away?

yellow – plastic bottles, popcorn bags

silver – mixed waste – food scraps, trays, hot drink cups, paper

green – special boxes for reusable cups

Thank you for sorting with us.

Energy-efficient lighting and e-mobility

We literally shone a light on energy consumption and completely replaced the lighting in the O2 arena and the parking structure using LED technology.

Benefits of LED lighting:
energy savings of up to 70%
lower maintenance costs
longer service life and instant illumination

Education and communication

Sustainable operations are not based just on technology or new systems, because only humans will make a real difference.

That is why we are dedicated to educating employees and working on clear communication with visitors. We regularly train staff in all aspects of sustainable processes and strive to ensure that each team member understands their impact on the environmentally-friendly operation of the O2 arena.

We communicate sustainability to our partners, suppliers and tenants – everyone involved
in events knows our rules and values. We are creating an environment where a sustainable
approach is a natural part of everyday work, not just a one-off environmental gesture.

Gastronomic facilities and in-house catering

At the O2 arena, we already know that a responsible approach starts with everyday things – such as food. Thanks to our modern gastronomy facilities, our own bakery and in-house catering, we have control over the quality of refreshments and the environmental impact of
our operations.

How is our catering more effective?

  • We prepare refreshments directly on-site, avoiding unnecessary logistics, transport, and excess packaging.

  • When choosing suppliers, we prioritize local producers.

  • We plan food preparation efficiently and minimize food waste.

  • We have a modern kitchen and facilities that contribute to energy savings.

Collaboration with the O2 Foundation – supporting digital health and children's safety

We have joined forces with the O2 Foundation.

We donate funds from each correctly returned cup to the O2 Smart School educational program. It helps children, parents and teachers learn how to navigate safely in the online
environment – how to identify fraud and risky behaviour, detect misinformation and care for their digital health. Thanks to this cooperation, the O2 arena is not only a place to enjoy experiences, but also a place that provides help – for the greater safety of our children in the
digital world.

The more cups returned to the right box, the more funding we can give to the O2 Foundation.

Through this collaboration, we are turning a simple environmental gesture into a specific binvestment in our children’s future.

FAQs

The Navratil cup is a SUPERHERO among reusable cups and deserves its own website. You will find the complete story of our Navratil reusable cup here when its time comes!

At the O2 arena last year, we optimised our waste sorting system, which is now clearer, more accessible and more efficient than ever. We want sustainability to be a natural part of every visit. In order to set up the whole process as efficiently as possible, we commissioned a waste management analysis from the non-profit organization INCIEN (Institute of Circular Economy).

Based on their recommendations, we set about modifying existing or creating new directions for waste management. We would like to build a long-term environment where sustainable operations are the standard – not the exception.

How is sorting done here?

You can now find colour-coded waste bins in all publicly accessible areas to facilitate proper waste sorting.

We sort plastics (yellow), mixed waste (silver) and now reusable cups (green).

But for the effect to be 100%, you need to go for it with us! How to do it?

It doesn’t end with the marked bins in public spaces. There is much more going on in our yard as part of targeted sorting. We turn around 400 tonnes of waste a year, which we recycle in detail.

For the collection and further processing of sorted waste, the O2 arena has contracts with external companies, which provide waste collection and subsequent recycling and disposal. These companies then transport the waste to their facilities, where it is further processed – recycled or recovered for energy.

In 2024, we sorted approximately 400 tonnes of waste. We work with Pražské služby, a.s., and CDV služby, s.r.o.

Sorting is simple at the O2 arena! We have three basic collection points ready for you, clearly marked and always at hand:

  • Green collection boxes: Navrátil reusable cups only. Never throw them in with plastics!
  • Yellow bins (plastic): plastic bottles and empty popcorn bags.
  • Grey bins (mixed waste): everything else.

We have a request for you - try to work with waste in the O2 arena according to our instructions - it makes sense. Returning a cup to the correct box will keep it circulating, and we will donate CZK 0.50 to a good cause for each cup returned. Together, we can do it easily, in an environmentally-friendly way and with a good feeling!

Thank you.

O2 Foundation (www.nadaceO2.cz)
The O2 Foundation, founded by O2 Czech Republic a.s., was one of the first corporate foundations in the Czech Republic. Since its inception, it has been actively engaged in education, environmental protection and community development.

The O2 Foundation’s vision is for modern technology to truly serve everyone – including people for whom it might otherwise be inaccessible. It supports the acquisition of digital skills by children, teachers and seniors, and focuses on current topics, such as safe and responsible behaviour online, the development of critical thinking and cybersecurity associated with digital health.

Every year, O2 employees participate in volunteer activities, helping in non-profit organizations, schools, the countryside and local communities. Together they create positive changes that have a real impact.

O2 Smart School (www.o2chytraskola.cz)
It is a comprehensive educational programme that helps children, parents and teachers use
technology safely and meaningfully at school and at home. It offers teaching materials, interactive workshops and expert help.

Thanks to the grant programme, schools and children’s homes can implement their own
projects focused on Internet safety, media and computer literacy and development of the use of modern technologies in teaching. The O2 Foundation has already distributed more than CZK 30 million to 328 schools and children’s homes.

The O2 Smart School programme also includes the online educational game NetKnights (www.netknights.cz) – an original interactive game for children from 8 years of age, but also their parents. The game’s objective is to provide children with a fun way to learn about privacy, secure information sharing, critical thinking and Internet risk prevention, as well as to develop teamwork and healthy communication. The game can be played alone, in pairs
against each other or in a group of up to 30 players. It is available for smartphones, tablets and computers.

With the O2 Smart School programme, the O2 Foundation regularly participates in educational events nationwide (e.g. family festivals, professional conferences and open days in schools), where it organizes workshops, lectures and practical demonstrations for children, parents and teachers.

It builds all its activities on data – conducting its own research among teachers, parents and pupils to better understand current trends and needs in digital education. As a result, the
programme constantly innovates and adapts to the real needs of schools and families.
