The legendary Laver Cup tennis tournament took place in 2017 at the O2 arena in Prague.
And this year marks ten years since the announcement of the Laver Cup – a new, bold team format in world tennis. At the time, the organizers were looking for a venue that would match the ambition of a world premiere. We are proud that their choice fell on the O2 arena in Prague.
In 2016, it was officially confirmed that the first-ever Laver Cup would take place in the heart of Europe. Even then, names were heard that promised exceptionality: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as teammates on one team, captains Björn Borg and John McEnroe facing each other. The new format, strong emotions and respect – everything seemed fresh and original.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bestsport, a.s. – Robert Schaffer said at the time that it was a confirmation of the quality of the facilities and the ambition to bring events that move the sports world to Prague. The fact that the organizers chose the O2 arena from European arenas was an honor not only for the organizers, but also for Prague and the entire Czech Republic.
Ten years later, it is clear that it was not just a tournament. A story began that confirmed that sport can truly unite – rivals, fans and continents.
Thank you for the amazing experiences.
