Programme for fans begins at the O2 Arena before the Czech Republic – Russia match

Before Saturday’s final test match before the World Cup at the O2 Arena, tribute will be paid to our hockey legends of September 1976, when the very first Canada Cup was held.

The people who were involved in that success and that won gold at the World Championships in Katowice and silver at the Olympics in Innsbruck in the very same year will be introduced to fans at the match on the ice itself.

The match organiser, Pro-Hockey, and the O2 Arena therefore recommend that fans arrive at the arena in plenty of time before the match begins (face off at 4.30 p.m.). The arena, at which there are thorough security checks before entry, will therefore be open at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday 10th September, two hours before the match begins.

Our national team members that reached the final of the Canada Cup forty years ago deserve to be honoured. In the very first year of the tournament, Czechoslovakia made it to the final, destroying Russia on the way and becoming the only team to defeat Canada at the group stage, Canada then going on to beat us in the final. Centre Milan Nový was one of the top scorers at the tournament and was voted on to the All Star Team. The people who were involved in that success and that won gold at the World Championships in Katowice and silver at the Olympics in Innsbruck in the very same year will be introduced to fans at the match on the ice itself.
